This was a glazes and scumbles project for my painting material and techniques class. Liquin primarily used in the variation of shades and tints, here (and was the only reason it was finished on-time, otherwise that particular shade of red would have taken WEEKS to dry). My pal Magda was used as the focal figure in this. I was previously going to trash this canvas, which displayed the (failed) results of a collaboration project from my freshman year of college that I didn't care for. Obviously glad I didn't. The composition was actually created specifically to utilize the canvas's length. Incidentally, I think I want to use Magda in other (pre-planned) painting projects, this figure reference having come from a collection of shots from my birthday. The shadow in this is completely improvised rather than referenced. I'm not even sure if it's finished, to be honest, I had to finish it rather quickly (about 9 hours) before class.

As usual I have complaints about trying to get a good shot of the piece despite the glossy texture of the surface, but I did much better than I would have otherwise due to the groov-tastic new camera my pal Peet bought me! Now I can totally take mirror-shots of myself in my Hello Kitty underoos making kissy faces for Myspace!
